At home in Burbank that turns into two habits. The eyes are treated as extensions of the brain, so a routine appointment is a full health check rather than a sight test. And prevention is treated as the best way to practice medicine, which is why an exam looks for the things a patient has not noticed yet.

Dr. Nguyen takes optometry students from Marshall Ketchum University and Western University across the border to the DIF hospital. They leave at 4 am and meet at the Mexican border at 7 am.

Dr. Nguyen, abroad and at home
Over ten mission trips to countries including Haiti, the Dominican Republic and El Salvador, alongside local clinics serving low income communities. He is a member of Volunteer Optometric Services to Humanity. Of all of these trips, Tecate is his favorite, because everyone is given brand new custom glasses rather than recycled prescriptions, and because cataract surgery is provided free.
Mentorship

Who it is for
College students who intend to become optometrists and want more than shadowing. The practice describes it as an immersive learning experience inside a modern, full scope medical optometry practice.
What it asks
A commitment of six to twelve months, and eight hours a week, taken either as one full day or as two half days.
Whether you need to see a cataract, LASIK, glaucoma, retina or pediatric ophthalmologist, they will refer you to the same doctor they would refer their own family member to.
