Eye exams in Burbank
A routine exam here is a full health check, from the cornea at the front of the eye to the retina at the back, and on to the brain.
More than a new prescription
In our routine eye exam we perform a comprehensive health check, starting at your cornea, the front of the eyes, going through to your retina, the back of the eyes, and all the way to the brain.
"We truly believe the eyes are extensions of the brain, so we do a full health check."
A refraction is part of the same visit, to establish your best vision with glasses. One appointment answers both questions: how your eyes are doing, and what you should be wearing.
When something specific is going on
A medical eye exam is different from a routine eye exam, as it is geared to address a specific ocular health concern.
About dilation
Dilation eyedrops can last in the eyes for up to four to six hours. While your eyes are dilated you may have blurred near vision as well as light sensitivity, and if it is your first time being dilated, we recommend against driving.
For certain patients, retinal imaging is available as a less invasive alternative method of testing.
Conditions we commonly manage
- Amblyopia (lazy eye)

- Conjunctivitis (pinkeye)

A medical visit is booked by phone rather than through the online scheduler. Call the office and tell us what is going on.
Children's eye exams, from six months old
The American Optometric Association recommends routine comprehensive eye exams every one to two years, beginning as early as six months old. The schedule they give is a first exam at six months, then again at three years, and again before starting school.
Dr. Nguyen works with pediatric patients and sees children as young as six months old.
What we look for in a child too young to tell us
- Amblyopia. When vision in one or both eyes does not develop properly during childhood. It is sometimes called lazy eye.
- Pupil response. The eyes are extensions of the brain, and through a healthy pupillary response we make sure that eye and brain connection is working.
