Because contact lenses are medical devices that you wear directly on your eyes they require a special assessment by your doctor. So the fitting is booked as its own appointment, and what it produces is a second prescription, separate from the one your glasses are made to.

The annual contact lens health evaluation
Contact lens wearers are seen once a year for an evaluation of the eye's health in lenses. It is its own appointment, listed separately from the routine eye exam.
